A new petition is being launched to revive the Strathalbyn Emergency Department, three years after its closure.

The petition is calling for the department to be reinstated and for it to be returned to its former operating hours and staffing, as local healthcare services continue to be strained.

Member for Hammond Adrian Pederick is leading the charge to have the department reopened, saying the initial closure was only meant to be temporary during the height of the pandemic.

“The closure was always meant to be a temporary measure while the state battled Covid-19,” Mr Pederick said.

“We never intended for the facility to remain closed, but it is now a decision that is in the hands of the Premier and Minister Picton.”

The petition is available to be signed at the following locations: Commercial Hotel, Pestka’s Bakery, Terminus Hotel, Hammer “n” Tongs, Maidment’s Meat Service, Victoria Hotel, Strathalbyn Corner Bakery, Daish Irrigation and Fodder, Jack’s High Street Café and Bakery and Langhorne Creek General Store.
