Young Jockey Recovers from Strath Fall

New Zealand Jockey, Kelsey Hannan, is recovering in hospital after a fall in Strathalbyn.

Just after 1.30pm on Sunday 28 January, emergency services were called to the Strathalbyn Racecourse after the 21-year-old fell from her horse.

The apprentice rider was airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with a stable fracture in her C1 vertebrae with no spinal cord damage.

She was placed in a neck brace and flown to thospital where she was then put into an induced coma.

She has since been cleared of any serious injuries and is expected to be discharged early this week.

The remainder of the Strathalbyn Cup Meet was abandoned.

The horse, Iva Dream, was found to have sustained a few minor lacerations and will require veterinary clearance before her next race engagement.

The 101st running of the Strathalbyn Cup has been rescheduled for Friday 2 February. It will be a free event.
