The historic Port Elliot Jetty is finally undergoing repair work, a year after being closed due to significant damage.
The 172-year-old structure was damaged in a storm last February with structural loss to several pylons and bracing.
Council allocated $230,000 for remediation works, with a further $174,000 in State Government funds coming through the Jetties Renewal program.
There was a delay earlier this year when specialist barge equipment was being used in Port Augusta, however the council has now mobilised the necessary equipment.
Council say the repairs should be finished by the end of March, with off-site work already underway and on-site work commencing next week.
Alexandra Council’s CEO Nigel Morris says the additional funding will have an important long-term impact.
“This additional State grant funding means we can take advantage of the significant expense of launching a marine barge and address not just the structural issues identified after the storm but the other parts of the jetty our contractors have advised will need urgent repairs in the next five to 10 years,” Morris said.
“Port Elliot Jetty is a much-loved feature in our community and for our many visitors so being able to secure its long-term future is important.”
