A controversial proposal for a 24/7 OTR petrol station at Heathfield in the Adelaide Hills is back under consideration after being rejected last year.
The Council’s Assessment Panel is taking a look at revised plans lodged by developer, PC Infrastructure.
The original proposal was rejected due to traffic safety, noise pollution and potential adverse effects on the quiet rural neighbourhood.
A group of concerned residents has been rallying against the plan for a 24/7 petrol station and car wash at the old Heathfield Motors site since it was first announced in 2021.
Under the new plan, there would still be petrol pumps and a 24/7 retail outlet but the car-wash would no longer run all hours and the proposed manual car wash and attached plant room would not be constructed. Vacuum cleaning bays would also be reduced from three to one and moved closer to the main building and fence heights would be lowered.
Those against the construction in the quiet residential area have told Council at a recent meeting that issues that have not yet been addressed include a seven-metre high illuminated sign, the size and shape of the main building, the location at an intersection without safe pedestrian crossings and the facility’s proximity to wildlife.
