Bands Playing at The Gov

The Animals – 9 July

The Animals 60th Anniversary and Farewell Tour of Australia!

The Animals were “one of the most important bands” in the British Invasion. The Beatles and Rolling Stones were the headliners, whilst The Animals were the backbone of blues!

The Animals are original member John Steel alongside Danny Handley, Bobby Ruiz and Barney “Boogie” Williams.

The Animals’ impact and influence is undeniable. They created some of the most iconic songs in popular music history including – We’ve Gotta Get Out Of This Place, The House of The Rising Sun, Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, It’s My Life, Don’t Bring Me Down and Boom Boom and more all of which will be performed on this Greatest Hits Final Tour.

‍John Schumann 3 Aug

Noted rock historian Glenn A Baker describes John Schumann as “…one of the finest songwriters this country has produced.”Funny, smart and a great storyteller, John Schumann is also regarded as one of the best frontmen in the country. Concerts with his world-class band, The Vagabond Crew, are compelling and memorable. As the lead singer and one of Redgum’s two major songwriters, John Schumann was “fortunate” enough to write a few major hits – including “I was only 19” and “I’ve been to Bali Too”.

The performance at the Gov on August 3 will feature those and other Redgum songs. But there will be more.Over and above his Redgum catalogue, John Schumann draws from 4 decades of songwriting and solo albums.

Etched in Blue, his highly acclaimed first solo album. True Believers chronicles Australia’s epic social and economic changes in the late 80s and early 90s.Lawson, an album of songs based on the poems of Henry Lawson. Behind the Lines – an emotion-charged songbook of Australia at war. Ghost and Memories – a collection of Australian stories and memories from 1953 to 2024.This concert will also feature couple of splendid covers. “Working Class Man”, made famous by Jimmy Barnes, is reimagined as a gentle, reflective ballad. And then there’s Schumann’s stunning rework of “Khe Sahn”. Schumann’s version is dubbed “The Long Tan Version” because – as he explains – Australians weren’t at Khe Sahn.

Daryl Braithwaite 14 Sept

ARIA Hall Of Fame Inductee and Australian music icon When you’ve got a back catalogue like Daryl Braithwaite’s it’s hard to find new material that will slip easily into an established canon of classic hits. In 2020, when almost no one expected it, Braithwaite returned with a stunning new single ‘Love Songs’. Let’s face it, you don’t get to wear that King of Pop crown for nothing.

Daryl’s vocal pipes should be listed as a national treasure – as should his instinct for hearing a song and making it his own. It’s no surprise Daryl’s live audience warmed to the song immediately.
