The Mount Barker Council will be solely running the Summit Sports and Recreation Park as of next year, in a move which they say will help them build the future direction of the divisive venue.
The current board will not be renewed once their terms expire next month, with their last meeting set for next Wednesday.
Mayor David Leach in a statement yesterday thanked those who served as the Summit was getting established, however said the Council’s internal capabilities have matured enough to handle the venue themselves.
The Council also says it’s exploring the increasing of community access to the venue.
Multiple local sporting associations have pulled away from the Summit over the last two years, citing excessive costs to use the facility.
It’s also reported the venue is losing approximately four hundred thousand dollars a year.
