Local Cricket Wrap – 3rd February

With local cricket finals edging ever closer, the race for the last positions produced some interesting results on Saturday. Catch up on all the action here:

MURRAY TOWNS CRICKET ASSOCIATION (full scorecards here)

The finals picture is still yet to be locked in for the Murray Towns Cricket Association, after Mannum took Monarto to task on Saturday as part of Round 13 action.

The Blackcaps needed to win to confirm their place in fourth, however couldn’t defend their total of 172 as Max Loller made 68* in Mannum’s chase.

Meningie kept pace in fifth with a thrilling two-wicket win on the second last ball against Tailem Bend, while league leaders Mypolonga easily beat the Wanderers by 8 wickets.

Yankalilla has sent a big statement and nearly confirmed their place in the upcoming Great Southern finals, with a comprehensive 81-run win over McLaren Districts. 

With both sides vying for a finals position, the Tigers were dominant thanks to an unbeaten century from Aaron Smith and four wickets from both Trent Starke and James Kerin.

Elsewhere, Myponga-Sellicks moved into sixth by surviving a scare from Victor Harbor to win by two runs, while Noarlunga remained on top of the league with a 49-run win over Encounter Bay.

HILLS/ALEXANDRA AND EASTERN HILLS CRICKET ASSOCIATIONS (HCA scorecards here, AEHCA scorecards here)

The top three in the Hills Cricket Association have moved clear with five rounds left, as Mount Lofty, Stirling and Mylor all recorded wins on Saturday. 

It now leaves Aldgate two games adrift in fourth, after Bridgewater picked up a six wicket win against them thanks to a blistering 74 from 40 deliveries from captain Jarrad Tait.

Over in the Alexandra and Eastern Hills, Langhorne Creek gained some momentum heading into finals with a key five-wicket win over fellow-top-four side Hahndorf.
