A threatening fire in Mount Torrens yesterday, on an extreme fire danger day in the Mount Lofty Ranges, was allegedly started by a local man who was using a power tool.
Police allege the fire was started around 3:20pm, when sparks from a power tool ignited dry grass in a paddock.
It then spread to a neighbouring property, which prompted CFS crews and support aircraft to respond quickly to keep the damage at a minimum.
Approximately 18 hectares of land was burnt, with damage caused to fencing.
Wind gusts of up to 44kmph were recorded at Mount Crawford in the lead-up to the fire, with temperatures recorded around 37.8C.
A 49-year-old man from Mount Torrens was reported for recklessly causing a bushfire and regulatory offences under the Fire and Emergency Services Regulations.
He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
