The Alexandra and Eastern Hills Cricket Association has decided to not use Mount Barker’s Summit Sports and Recreation Park for their games this season, joining other local sporting leagues choosing to play elsewhere.
The cricket league says that they currently face financial sustainability issues, citing the high costs of using the Summit’s facilities were not viable after the SA Cricket Association stopped funding the league.
It follows last year’s decision by the Hills Football League and Mount Barker Football Club to also not use the ground.
The Summit’s board says it’s disappointed with the decision, however is open to accommodating the league in the future should their situation change.
It’s reported that the Summit charges $70 per hour for use of the cricket/football oval, with an additional $30 flat fee for lighting.
