The Murray Towns Cricket community is coming together to put on a special event for their mate and Association President, Daniel “Happy” Gilmore.
The Jervois Cricket Club is coordinating Happy’s Game next Saturday 7 December from 10am at the Jervois Oval with lunch and T20 games, raffles and other activities.
It is in honor of their teammate who has faced serious health challenges and will soon be unable to continue playing cricket.
Club President Michael Bates said the event will serve as both a celebration and a fundraiser, bringing together players—past and present—who have had the privilege of playing alongside or against Happy.
“I don’t think you will find one person who’ll say a bad word about him…He’s been involved in cricket in this region for the past 30+ years, has an amazing record… just a great all-round bloke. Everyone who comes in contact feels like they owe him something because he’s always giving and refuses to take, so this is an opportunity to give something back,” Michael Bates told ARN’s Chris Guscott.
Everyone is welcome to attend Happy’s Game and participate in a silent auction. The team are also keen to hear from anyone who is able to help out with the event, including donating auction items.
“We’ve taken this from an idea to ‘we’re doing this’ and given ourselves 13 days to complete it so… we’re willing to take any help we can get,” Michael Bates said.
