Three fishermen have been fined almost $4,000 for allegedly illegally catching 22 Snapper in the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Officers from the Department of Primary Industries and Regions, PIRSA, conducted a routine inspection of a boat returning to Cape Jervis this month, and seized 22 fish, 20 of which were under the legal minimum size of 38 centimetres.
They they determined the fish had been caught in waters west of the cape, where snapper fishing is currently prohibited.
The West Coast, Spencer Gulf and Gulf St Vincent/Kangaroo Island Fishing Zones are closed to Snapper fishing until 30 June 2026. Catch and release fishing is strictly prohibited in closed areas.
