Local footy is back for 2025, with two interesting opening rounds in the Great Southern and River Murray leagues kicking off proceedings. Catch up on all the action here:

GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)

McLaren Districts has made a big statement first up, by winning their blockbuster opening round clash in the Great Southern Footy League against defending champions Myponga-Sellicks on Saturday.

The Eagles kicked five goals to two in the last quarter to win by 24 points, staking their claim as a grand final contender again in 2025.

Elsewhere, three sides who missed finals won in Round 1, with Yankalilla, Mount Compass and Willunga all taking out early victories in an early boost to their campaigns. 

RIVER MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)

Coorong has picked up where they left off last season, storming home in their grand final rematch in Round 1 of the River Murray Footy League on Saturday. 

The Cats led by a goal at halftime against a determined Mypolonga outfit, however shifted gears in the last quarter to win by 68 points, starting off their premiership defence in impressive fashion.

Other results from the round saw Tyson Edwards win his first game in charge of Tailem Bend, with the Eagles winning by 34 points over Mallee Districts, while Mannum staked their claim early with a huge 129-point win over Rambler.
