The Adelaide Hills has become a little more colourful with the completion of Love Woodside’s Tank Mural.
Adelaide Hills-based artist TaylrJay (Taylor Summers) has painted the SA Water tank with native flora and fauna and elements of local history and industry, including grapes and a gold mine.
It was officially unveiled on 6 November with members of Love Woodside, supporting groups Arts SA, Country Arts SA and SA Water and guests including Kavel MP Minister Dan Cregan.
TaylrJay, who you may know from her chicken art work at the bottom of the South Eastern Freeway, or blue-banded bee mural in Nairne, tells us the Woodside project was a joy to be a part of.
“That’s the aim behind all of my art actually, it’s meant to inspire joy and whimsy and happiness and makes people happier overall,” TaylrJay told ARN’s Adam and Jennie this morning.
As part of the project Taylor mentored artist Bella Gazard, teaching her about translating work from page to tank.
“So over five days she learnt about mural painting, how to prepare the surface properly for painting the mural, scaling up the design and finally onto painting so it was very helpful having her there,” TaylrJay said.
Apparently though it wasn’t all smooth sailing.
“She also got to experience some fairly extreme conditions, you may recall in August or September there was that polar vortex causing some extreme winds throughout Southern Australia, so we were up Ridge Road at this tank and the wind is just blasting the side of the tank, it was incredible. So quite an experience for her but overall I believed she enjoyed it.”
Minister and Hills MP Dan Cregan has thrown his support behind the project.
“It was a delight to celebrate the opening of Taylor’s amazing mural,” Minister Cregan said.
“I particularly wanted to acknowledge Love Woodside and Country Arts SA who have been essential to the completion of this project.”
Next year, the Love Woodside Group will work with SA Water to create a garden of local native plants around the tank.
