SES Urging Preparedness Ahead Of Spring Storms

September 13, 2023 4:52 pm in by

The SA SES has begun their campaign to make sure locals are ready for the season ahead, which they have dubbed ‘Storm Season’.

Spring marks the start of the busiest season of the year for the SES, with volunteers responding to thousands of requests for assistance from the public every Spring; the majority related to property damage due to severe storms.

A recent survey by NRMA Insurance has also shown an unwillingness to being prepared, with less than a third (32%) of South Australians having taken steps to prepare for severe weather in the past three months and less than half (47%) planning to take steps in the next three months.

Dave O’Shannesy, SES South Region Commander says it’s important everyone plays their part.

“As a result of a changing climate, damaging weather events were increasing in their frequency and severity,’’ he said.

“The SES will always be there to help people in need, but we encourage people to be proactive and take steps to reduce the risk of storm damage to the family home and avoid potentially costly repairs.”
